Main Dhoondne Ko Zamaane Mein Lyrics English Translation – Arijit Singh

Main dhoondne ko zamane me jab wafa nikla
When I started out to look for love in the world,

Pata chala ki ghalat leke main pata nikla
I found out that I had begun with the wrong address with me.

Jis ke aane se muqammal ho gayi thi zindagi
The one with whose arrival life had become complete,

Dastakein khushiyon ne di thi,
and joys had knocked [at my door]

Mit gayi thi har kami
every lack was fulfilled,

Kyun bewajah di ye sazaa
why did (she) gave me such a punishment,

Kyun khwaab de ke wo le gayaa
Why did (she) give me dreams and then took them away,

Jiyein jo hum lage sitam
If I live, it feels like a torture,

Azaab aise wo de gayaa
Such pains (she) gave me.

[She is in brackets, as he isn’t really talking of a specific gender, though you know it’s a female he must be talking of. A kind of common thing in many ghazals, and ghazal-like songs, such as this one.]

Main dhoondhne ko uske dil me jo Khuda nikla
When I started out to find god in her heart,

Pataa chala ke galat leke main pata nikla
I found out that I had begun with the wrong address with me.

Dhoondta tha ek pal me dil jise ye sau dafaa
The one whom the heart looked for a hundred times in every moment,

Hai subah naaraaz us bin roothi shaame din khafa
Without her, the morning is angry, evenings are angry, the day is angry.
[Very interesting line, this one. Naaraaz, rootha/roothi, and khafaa have the same meaning. Sore. Angry.]

Wo aaye na, le jaaye na
She should come and take

Haan uski yaadein jo yahaan
her memories that are here..

Na raasta, na kuchh pataa
I don’t have the way, or the address,

Main usko dhoondhunga ab kahaan
where shall I find her now..

Main dhoondhne jo kabhi jeene ki wajah nikla
When I started out to find the reason to live,

Pata chala ke ghalat leke main pata nikla
I found out that I had begun with the wrong address with me.
